Life and Times

Meri Fowler is an active leader in the Wiccan Community of West Island Montreal. She teaches classes on Wicca and gives workshops on Shamanism, Meditation, Faery, Therapeutic Touch, Tarot, and other subjects and also is a public speaker giving talks on Wicca to local Community Colleges.  Meri practices Celtic Shamanic Wicca, which is Wicca devoted to the Celtic Pantheon and concerned with the study of Celtic Mythology, the Oghams and the Celtic World View. She incorporates Shamanic work into her Wiccan practice because she believes that Wicca is a religion with roots in the pre-Christian Shamanic practices of the British Isles.

Meri started the Greenwood Celtic Shamanic Wiccan Tradition with her former partner Ronin, which has now expanded to five active Covens to date and still growing! She has been running a group for teens called Young Pagan's Circle since 2000 which gives children between the ages of 10 and 18 a place to explore Pagan practices and beliefs such as healing, divination, animal communication, astrology, dragons, energy work and many other things. In 2005 Meri started the Wiccan Sacred Circle Network, which is an on-line resource for Wiccans in the area looking for meetings, classes and public events.

In 2008 Meri co-founded Avalon Center as a spiritual resource and community center for the Pagan and Wiccan Community. Avalon is a place where the Covens can meet, classes and workshops are held and where new people can come and meet the Wiccans in a safe and non-threatening environment. It is also a place where non-Pagans can explore meditation, Shamanism and other practices.

Also located at Avalon is the lending library, which Meri started and organizes to give people access to hundreds of Pagan, Wiccan and other books not easily found in public libraries.

Meri, with the Witches of the Greenwood Tradition, organizes two major public Sabbats a year, usually Yule and Beltane. Nearly a hundred people attended the Beltane Sabbat in 2009! Meri has studied many traditions of Wicca since 1992 and is a 2nd degree initiate in the American Welsh Tradition. She is trained in Shamanism with the Foundation for Shamanic Studies, is a certified practitioner of Therapeutic Touch, has a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and a 2nd Dan in Ninjutsu (a Japanese Martial art). Meri works full time as a palliative care nurse and lives with her son in Dorval.
